A Spiritual Mentor is a guide and companion to another on his or her journey to holiness. He or she is someone guided by the Holy Spirit in faithfully following the teachings of the Church while instructing and supporting the mentee in spiritual matters.
Jesus walked the journey with His disciples; He didn't call them to a great life with Him and then leave them alone. Spiritual Mentors accompany others on their walk with Christ, hold their mentees accountable for their desire to grow in holiness, and challenge them to go deeper.
The Spiritual Mentorship program is open to adults who want to volunteer to be a mentor, and also to anyone who is interested in being mentored in the formation and growth of their faith life.
“My dream for the Archdiocese is to be able to awaken in the hearts of many a yearning for holiness. If we are able to succeed in this area, we will need an army of spiritual mentors who will be trained to help guide and assist others in developing a rich life of prayer. I am very grateful for the presence of the Apostles of the Interior Life in the Archdiocese with their special charism and expertise in the area of spiritual direction. I am thrilled with their willingness to help form others to be spiritual mentors.”
A person becomes a Spiritual Mentor by participating in a two-year course of study offered through the Archdiocese's Holy Family School of Faith. The program involves participation in (8) distance learning courses plus (4) one-week on-site intensive sessions. Through formation the Spiritual Mentor develops a deep prayer and sacramental life, increases in knowledge of the Catholic faith, and grows in the virtues.
